Looks like Dendronepthya to me (Carnation coral). They are very hard to keep. Only recommended for very experienced reefers. I learned the hard way.

I am not sure of the laws in Indonesia, but I am quite sure that there will be questions entering the US if you live here. I travel a lot and have had everything searched a couple of times, and anything plant or animal that is living is pretty much forbidden to bring in for several reasons.

That is very pretty though.

yepp its legal here and as far as i know and what i asked around, there is no law on this. My tank is in indonesia(i'm an indonesian) and i know that i'm not going to bring it back to US. I know its illegal there in US..

Anyway, i'm takin care of this 300+ gallon tank my dad bought for the living room. everyone's doing fine so far.

One sad story: Over here in Indonesia, not much ppl have SW tanks.. and even if ppl have it here, not much ppl actually take the time to take care of the things inside the tank. Fishes here are too cheap. You can buy a clown fish for abt US$1. Its so cheap that no one actually give a **** if they die. Most ppl have SW tank just for the sake of home decoration. Many beautiful fishes has died. Yeah its so sad.

I believe they are nocturnal. So keep it in a big cave or in the sump or something.

here's a good pic of one opened up: http://www.sevenseasphotography.com/Fiji_Pink_Coral.jpg

very beautiful coral, nice find!

Why would you take something out of it's natural environment if you don't know what it is or the care it requires? That's not very responsible. If you live in Indonesia and snorkel there frequently. Look up the things you see prior to taking them. This way you don't unnecessarily kill marine life that should otherwise never (or very rarely) be removed from its natural habitat.

That might be a little harsh Melissa, tejo has taken the time to come here and ask the questions. I'm sure a lot of us, I know I have, have brought things home from the beach or store and relized we should have studied more. On the other hand I agree that study is very necessary, there are some things that could cause a lot of damage to your tank or even you.

well put.

I would try and put it in like you took it out. was it in a sandy bed? rocky bed? try and put it in your tank like it was in the water i guess.

Nothing I said was demeaning. I can understand you thinking I'm being harsh if I directly was insulting. I stated what I said very matter of factly.

Nobody pointed out that taking life like this is not "ok". Therefore he probably wouldn't have understood that otherwise. Some people never take that into consideration. It needs to be said whether some take it personally or not. That is beyond my control.
