i need to vent!!!!

Fellow reefers,

I need to tell you all this. I have a american marine pH monitor that is less then 4 months old and is now broke and worthless. I contacted american marine and told him that the probe will not calibrate and reads 14.62 and will drop to 10-11 when not in no liquid. The american marine rep told me the probe is bad, and that I NEED to replace it. Why should I HAVE to replace it? isnt there such things as warranties anymore? I am fuming!!! I called the local shop first and he told me it would be quicker and easier to contact american marine directly so he gave me the contact info. Now i need to call the LFS back, and hope he will replace it for me. So for what its worth becareful when you buy pinpoint equipment. they can not stand behind their 2 year warranty on their products. I should have listened to people and went with the milwaukee monitors.... I am ticked!!! sorry ladies and gents

i am now done venting!!!!

That's the pits, DevilBoy. Unfortunately, I imagine probes are considered a consumable, much like tires on a car. I can appreciate the manufacturer's point, but 4 months is a pretty short life (I'd expect it to be closer to a year).

Milwaukee probes have only lasted about 6 months on average for me. I actually have better luck with the pinpoint. Also the Pinpoint in general have much better accuracy than some of the Milwaukee monitors where Pinpoint is +/- 0.1 and Milwaukee is +/- 0.2, this makes a huge difference.

Sorry to hear of your issues but I don't think it is limited to that company! Not sure if that would make you feel better or worse

And yes as CRVZ mentioned, probes are pretty much disposable and not covered under their warranty.

I had the same thing happen, my probe went out after 6 months and the rep at American Marine told me that they were a throw away item anyway. Meanwhile I have another off brand from China that I got off of ebay for $20 about 2 years ago and when I calibrate it is has never been more than .05 off.

I solved the expense by simply not testing ph anymore
