I need some help real quick....

I came home from work today and my tank was 86 deg. It was hot here today and i didn't turn on the a/c.

I already shut down the lights, ditchet the glass top (for good) and opened the window next to the tank. Its cool outside now so I thought that might bring it down a few notches.

Anyone have any ideas how to safely cool my tank? I dont want to do it to fast, but i dont want to leave it at 86 any longer than i have to.

Thanks.

float some ice packs in the sump
place them into zip-lock bags to keep any contaminants out

If you have the window open, watch the temp of the tank...it can go down fast.

How is everyone doing? If you can get it down a few degrees, you should be fine.

skimmer is running.... and ice packs.... why didnt i think of that? Thank you very much. I'll run and get some big ziplocks now. Corals and fish all look pretty good. Corals arent open quite as much as usual. Hopefully this wont be a problem all summer....

thanks again!

The ice packs wioll work great, just dont cool it down too fast. The rapid change can be worse than the cgange itself.

Hopefully just running the a/c during the day will help. I dont have the $$$ for a chiller.

As far as the ice packs. I did that. just a few small ones. The temp is down to 84 now. Its falling slowly which is good. Already the xenia is looking a little better.

I dont have a sump or anything. The tank isnt drilled and i dont know if I could trust a hang on overflow. So I had to float the ice in the tank. I just hope the a/c is enough this summer

We all are facingthat, I have a leak in the chiller, Can't used and my tank got warm today. I will have to get things fix or buy a new chiller, Just been a real bad day, I think I may have lost my katrina coral, It got knock over on top of a pagoda and the pagoda got it bad, all I can do is hope it will recover, aleast half got stung. The heat was my 2nd problem, in the past I have used fan in the sump area and can lower temp by 3 degrees pretyy fast.

Hailed here yesterday. Have the air on in my house (no chiller) and tank stayed at 78. Guess I have to suck it up now and keep the air on!

The ice bags work great... I had to do this about a month ago when my heater went on the fritz. How is everything doing? My critters recovered well.
