Question

I need help with my skimmer

Hi Everyone;
I have a 150 gallon tank with fish live rock and several fish. I've been having trouble with my Nitrates(as many of you know;-). Today I will be taking out the last of my Bio balls and doing a water change. I have a Red Sea hang on turbo skimmer. Ive had it for a cpl of yrs now and have noticed in the past it doesn't produce much scum. I didn't pay allot of attention to it because I only had fish and LR. Well know that I have started adding coral and have noticed my nitrates at 40ppm I'm working at correcting all that I can with my tank. My skimmer collector has NEVER had to be empty ed. I do clean it about once every other week. Either it's not producing scum or it is producing scum along with filling the tank with micro bubbles. Does anyone out there have a RDS? Have you had the same problem? How did you correct it?
Thanks everyone!
Patrick

Hi Geoff;
It came with its own pump 55 watt. I clean once a moth but I havent soaked it in vinegar. It's been like this from day one. As a matter of fact this is the second one Ive had. I brought the first one back and they gave me a this new one. I'm starting to think the RedSeas just arent any good.
