Google whole house RO systems
Here is an example
http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1..._House_RO.html
Note how its RO only, you do not want to consume DI water it can make you sick. DI is just for our aquariums.

There are a number of whole house ro/di systems, or industrial use ones as well. I know that they use these in the wafer making process (for ICs) and have seen some systems that took up several hundred square feet. The same basic thechnology is what is being used for desalinazation. So, as HD said above, google whole house ro, or try whole house filtration, and you'll come up with a number of viable options.

Just use RO water do not include the DI. Read up on it a little, some people say we need the minerals in the water to keep us healthy.....maybe. But I have tested the water out of my RODI and the PH is around 7 supposed to be neutral, but will corrode pipes (water heater) quickly in search of minerals.

well in our water they(the town) heavily dose it with chlorine. and there are a lot of heavy metals, sulfur, calcium, and a whole lot of other stuff.
we just want it for drinking for the most part.

I have installed the Merlin system that HD Fatboy linked to, a very nice unit that produces a LOT of water. If you are going to use it for drinking and ice making duties, you won't need the storage tank, it really does make that much water that fast (of course at the proper water pressure, which should be 60-80 PSI)
I use the Merlin system at work to provide water for the cooling system of the Mazak Lazer cutting machine...here's a pic

so i searched the google for a few days and found nothing "amazing". all i found were the basic ro filters that you can gt at pwc for 25 bucks. anybody know of any other system besides the Merline that is really good and is rated for house use?
also fattony why do you use ro water for laser cuter? y wouldn't you use just regular water?

You use the RO due to mineral buildup from tap water. The last thing you want to do is replace a $10K collector due to mineral buildup. Also, the manufacturer will not warranty the machine if you do not use RO or Distilled water for the cooling system.

Sounds to me like flushing away perfectly good RO h20 =] I wonder how it would effect your shower experience. On a serious note...
I have read that most larger systems incorporate a water softener unit before the filtration unit.
