I need advice on what type of sump to buy for a 45 gallon aquariun


Hello people.Iam looking to buy a sump setup for my new 45 gallon aquarium. I guess my question is the stand doesnt have a ton of room for one do they make smaller ones for this purpose I would like to just buy the complete setup any ideas ?

The first suggestion would be to measure and see what will fit in the stand you have. I would stay away from the all in one kits as the skimmers are pretty much useless. Next see what skimmer you would like to use and then go from there.

well i do have a skimmer now its an octopus bh-100 hang on back unit could it be used to put in the sump?I believe the guy at the lfs said I could do it the I told him i didnt have a sump I have no clue lol

You would be pushing the limits of that skimmer IMO. Much better off picking up something like a Octopus NW110 if you are going through all the trouble f adding a sump

Go the biggest you can fit under your stand. As for skimmer I also would recommend getting a bigger one, the Octo NW 150 would be a little big but it would definitely get the job done, but like others mentioned the 110 would also be an excellent choice.

We just got a 45g, and most likely going with the 110 in the sump, we are going to make a sump.

i wouldn't use the HOB Octopus in the sump... going from experience here
