I Made It
Hi there, been a few months, I made it to sunny, or should i say, smoggy southern california. If you ever get the chance to drive cross country it is an experience that cant be missed.
All items from the previous tank in Baltimore were sold, or given away and now I am ready to set up a new system out here. I have been debating between a 12gal micro, or getting a 72 bow.
I have found several LFS, (tongs, seaside, strickly fish a few others) and I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for local stores here to get nice coral, live rock, etc.
Also, if anyone knows someone who works with acrylic to make a refugium if I get the 72 or larger bow.
Thanks

I guess it depends on where in Southern California you are.
You might want to keep the driving to a min.

Where abouts in Southern California are you? Which Tongs have you been to, the one on Whittier BLVD in Whittier, or the one in Brea? (I'm pretty sure there are a couple more)
There's a good shop in Buena Park on Western just north of Oraghethorpe, I think it's called Orange Coast Tropical.
Anyways, welcome.

Fish 2000 advertises in the Recycler (Pick it up at any 7-11, or go to www.recycler.com) In the past they've had really good deals on tanks. I think they are in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana

Hey HOT CORAL! I can relate to driving cross country as my wife and I have driven from Missoula, Montana to Burlington, Vermont twice and it is an experience! The worst part of the trip to me is driving through Chicago! Man! The traffic is unbelievable!! Johnny

If it's in the budget now, go big. You can always set the smaller tank up later. Glad you had a good time on your trip Maybe moving really is an adventure after all!

All, Thanks for the tips.
I live in Anaheim on the border of Fullerton.
I went to Tongs on Warner in Fountain Valley. Also Seaside in Huntington Beach, Strickly Fish in Garden Grove, and a few others but they werent worth mentioning
I dont mind driving, I drove as far as an hour and a half to goto good stores on the East Coast (there is just something about looking at a great reef tank)
Space may limit me on the larger tank, I think our apt is 500sqft. You definitely get less for the money in todays real estate market.
I looked at the members tank websites last nite, and the nano 7gal was awesome.
I will post pictures this time around when I get everything setup,
Also, is there a marine society here? We had a reef club in Maryland for info, frags, etc....
later

Your probably less than 5 miles from me.
Check out the place on western and Orangethorpe. Just drive west on Orangethorpe until you hit Western, turn right, and it's on the left hand side.
Tongs on Whittier blvd is worth checking out. If you take Harbor north about 4 miles you'll hit Whittier, make a left and go another 4 miles or so. It's near the Whitwood mall.
There is also a Tongs in brea on Laurel and Imperial hwy. Not as impressive, but if your in the area check it out.
You couldn't be more right about real estate in Southern California. I've seen alot of homes double in the last 2-4 years, espescially the cheaper ones. Apartments are pretty ridiculous too.

If you are in Anaheim, have you been to Pacific Reef Tropical Fish? 2877 W. Lincoln Ave in Anaheim. www.reefpacific.com
Neptune's Reef 2851 Pacific Coast Highway. www.neptunesreef.com
There are a few decent stores on PCH, up and down the coast. all the way up towards LAX, Jim's exotic fish in El Segundo. www.jimsexoticfish.com
Fish Wonder on PCH in Hermosa Beach.
In the SanGabriel Valley. Pasadena Tropical Fish on Colorado Blvd.
Hope this helps.
