now i never hooked up a sump i had fresh water before, but now i tried using the sump for my 130 on a smaller tank to check for leaks. well every time i tried it it flooded my tank is that cuz the sump is bigger then my tank or had the pips wrong. i did it with reg water so not to mess with my salt tank. the overflow box kept filling up then so did the tank

A detailed pic of some sumps and the way the water flows would be a great help thank you all.

i am guessing water comes in on the left then through the skimmer then in what looks like spray bar over live rock then out the lower pipe on the right is that correct

Yes the water from the main tank drains into the left of the sump. Where the skimmers, skims all the dirty water from the tank. Then you have your first baffle which i cut to 9" inches. This will insure that the water level where the skimmer is at will never go below 9". I chose the 9" height per the manufacturer telling me my skimmer is at optimal perfomance in water of 8-10" of depth. The spraybar is in a different area of the sump. The spraybar is located in a refugium section where macro algae will be growing for exporting nutrients. The section with the live rock, is just a open section between the skimmer baffle and the first baffle of the bubble trap. I placed the live rock there to add in getting rid of micro bubbles. The live rock does not need to be put there. I will post some closer photos of the refugium section and the spraybar. If you look closely the the drain from the tank is actually Tee'd off with a ball valve where i regulate the flow i want to the spraybar for the refugium. Once the water flows thru the bubble trap section it flows in the return section, which is indicated with the white 90* pvc elbow. The white float swtich with the black bracket is for my ATO unit.
here is a close pic.

The tub is for my ATO. The aqualifter pump, pumps RO/DI water out of the tub when the level drops in the return section, and once the float valve rises up and touches the sensor, it shuts the pump off. I do this for stable salinity levels and do not have to manually top off my tank everyday.

Actually speaking what you have is a wet/dry filter. I really dont know how you would turn that into a sump. I do know you want to get rid of the bio balls.

i am not saying you wasted your money on it. I am just not familiar on how to turn it into a sump. I am sure there are some people out there with limited space, have turned a wet/dry into a sump. And they would be able to help you out more then i can.
