Question

i have a lighting question.


i have a 75 gallon with (6) 65watt pc and i have them about eight and a half inches off the top, is this a good height or is it to high or low

that is a bit high for flourescents. most people put flourescents righ on the top of the tank. it is really only the MH's that you have to worry about being to close to the waters surface.

would them being that high be to high for corals towards the bottom of the tank to get enough light?

It really depends on what your keeping on the bottom. I have my 384w PC about 3 inchec off the water and theres really no LPS I cant keep.

I always try and get PC's 3 inches from the surface or lower,.. any more and allot of light is lost out the sides.

I have 4 96 watt PC's right on top of my tank probably an inch off the water.

I have my 4 T5s pretty much on the tank too, maybe 1" up. Which is about 2 or 3 from the water.

yes, since flourescent lighting is an indirect light source any increase in distance from the waters surface significantly diminished the penetrating power of the light. this is why MH's are recommended on any tank that is over 30" deep. MH's are considered a point source and have a much higher penetrating power than flourescents.
