I had a tank Crash Today.
Sometime last night my GFCI tripped and knocked out all the circulation and heat to my tank. I came downstairs to see my tank at 64 degrees. The corals all look alright except for a few that are gone. My fish on the other hand are another story.
I only have two clowns and a yellow watchman goby left.
I don't think one clown will make it though.
I lost a Foxface rabbitfish, a coral beauty angel, a yellow tang, a cleaner shrimp, and a mandarin (he was my favorite).
Its a sad day. I am slowly raising the tank temp. Right now its about 70 and slowing coming up. What a way to spend my Sunday.

The tank is in the basement. I checked on the tank last night at about 7 so it could have been off for a LONG time.
I don't think one of my clowns is going to make it. The female is breathing hard on her side on the bottom of the tank. She seems like her movements are getting slower.

warm up the clown slowly. I had a tank dip into the 50's during a power outage and the only fish not to survive was the damsel I had in the sump. He fell was too lathargic from the cold to get away from the reurn pump when the power came back on.
Really suck though.............

Oh man, that is terrible!!! I am so sorry! Any idea what made the GFCI trip??? I try to look at my tank( in the basement) several times a day, but there have been times when I am so busy that by the end of the day, I realize I haven't looked at it at all!!!! I am always so worried what I might find when I finally make it down there to check....
Again, sorry for the losses.

When I get the new 180 up I think I am going to try and design a secondry backup system. It will consist of a heater and a second pump all in the sump. When the power goes out it will automatically turn on. I could power it with a deep cell battery. Since my new tank has a seperate room behind it power won't be a problem. I just need to figure out something so this doesn't happen again.

That sucks, It seems a bit hard for me to accept that some tanks can go that fast. About 7-8 years ago when I first got started with salt I was living in a apartment with Electric heat. We had a large Ice storm, and I was without electricity for 4 days. tank temp fell to about 65'f, and the apartment was around 55'f. Through the use of propane heaters (only while awake), it was survivable. Somehow I brought the tank though that with not one death. If I remember correctly I had at that time a yellow tang, blue damsel, and a clown, as well as a couple leather corals and worms. Maybe the small bioload/capacity allowed enough oxygen for survival?

But now I have a backup generator, wired into the panel. no more long term power outages for me.
