Unless Nick Dakin has taken the time to rewrite for a new edition, his rext for reef aquaria is a bit dated. Even though John Tulloch's book is excellent and deals with biotopes as opposed to mixed speciation, even some of the information in his book is becoming dated as new information regarding DSB and nitrate reduction is becoming available. Overall, both are great books for initial reading to gain husbandry skills. I might mention Bob Fenner's The Conscientious Marine Aquarist --A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists as another good book that has a great deal of information applicable to reef keeping.

Somewhere here there is a thread of 10 books that I recommended for the local library to purchase, might want to search back about a year or two ago for the thread. Maybe Cath knows where it is.

i wish everybody read....

Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman is indespensible, I also highly recomend Tullocks more known book, Natural Reef Aquariums. For animal references I like Marine Fishes by Scott W. Michael from the pocket expert series, and Ivertebrates, A Quick Reference Guide by Julian Sprung. Hope that helps

yeh, Tom, I know which list you're talking about.. BUT I'd have to find it on my puter desk

It's far easier to look at the home page of TRT , where Brooke included an enitre section of a listing of preferred books. Good pix of the covers too!

Tullocks book has some good info, bought it when it was new, but even then was a little disappointed. Also you can pick up marine invertibrates by Moe. Dated but still supplies a ton of info, see them all the time on ebay. Look through amazons website and if you find a book that looks good then you can check for it on ebay.

I've been eyeballing
Book of Coral Propagation, Volume 1: Reef Gardening for Aquarists
by Anthony Rosario Calfo
Saw it today at the LFS, but I've spent all my money this month

Have a great evening
