i got pods...
in the day!! these things dont even hide anymore they just come out lights on and scurry around doing what a amphipod does best (what ever that is)
i put in a shrimp pellet for the hermits and yep there were pods on it lol
so i did a reef taboo boo boo, i ordered a spotted mandarin
he was only 15 dollars and supposed to be only an inch. he will be arriving shortly. ive been reading like crazy trying to sort out what works for people and what foods dont. ive come across mandarins eating anything from pellets, live black worms (hard to find IMO) brine shrimp (which they seem to starve from) and one site actually said they had success with fish roe, you know that expensive caviar they put on sushi (orange eggs)
so with all this info ill try my best and offer it as much as i can
ive found several sites with mandarins in nano's doing well, this gives me some hope, well unless of course he arrives dead
i was gonna keep my mandarin a secret lol but i got a big mouth

I've been toying with the idea myself in my 20.
I have plenty of pods now but after he eats them all, then what?
I'm curious about the row...go to your local fish store and ask for shad row, it's cheap and not processed like what you'd get at a sushi or supermarket.
Plus you can ask for any scraps and make blender mush from it.
My fish were eating Yellowfin tuna mush the other night...they loved it!

Ooh Pastina . Just kidding, I've heard of people keeping them in nanos as well. Maybe you can get the little fella used to eating foods other than copepods. Don't forget to post pic.

well right now id be happy if i can get the thing to move
i put him in a few minutes ago and hes just sitting at the bottom, hes breathing so i know hes alive
hes in the 12 aquapod along with a wheelers goby that arrived with him. the wheelers is insane scared the you know what outta me. i looked in the bag right to see how he looks and i saw nothing, im like oh great did they forget my fish? then out of nowhere he shot at me like a bullet! thank god he didnt get outta the bag. tiny too only about 1.5"
i started to add water from my tank into the wheelers bag and he started freaking out, im like ok fine, so i tried to pour him in quickly and he darted up and hit the tanks hood before he landed back in the tank behind a rock. yeah hes healthy alright.
as for the mandarin he seems like a dud. not sure if this is typical for them but i dont have much hope on this one
i also got a clarkii clown for my 12g nano cube, he will be all by himself in that tank, well accept for some crab and shrimp friends
heres a pic, its a lil odd sorry, theres a frightened bubble bee snail next to the mandarin along with some odd looking spiral shell that the pistol shrimp dug up
ill keep you posted on the mandarins health, hopefully he will start moving before the jeffersons are on tv

That's perty normal for a manderin, they don't move very fast, and I am not supprized at all that he is just laying there if he is stressed.
You didn't add the water the fish came in to your tank did you??????? I hope not, because some shippers ship their fish in water that contines copper meds, and keep them in the same to help prevent deseise but this is very toxic to any kind of invert, from pods to corals.

You didn't add the water did you?
If so get ready for some major water changes, just in case.

Ya, LFS's often do the same thing, there are at least a couple around here that keep copper meds in their holding tanks all the time so the fish don't get sick, then when they bag the fish that same water goes in the bag,...
That's why you acclimate the fish, in the end getting rid of all the water that it came with, (then net) if not that, then at least net the fish and drop it in the tank so the water in the bag doesn't hit the tank.

I have a green that I have had for ever in a 55g. They eat ALL the time. Never stop. I have trained mine to eat frozen brine and it has not starved yet. Brine aren't really that much less protein. When I got mine it was really thin and looked awful. In fact, that's the only reason I bought it. I have always had good luck with them. I've had this one for three years or so. They are so pretty I just couldn't leave it to die at the LFS. So...........That is a very small tank for one though. I've always read min 55g, 75g even better. When it starts moving around, start trying to get it to eat brine. I use a turkey baster and spot feed mine. When you buy brine you have to be careful. If the LFS has let it thaw the shrimp will be NASTY. All broken up and messy. I only buy if it has been frozen the whole time. You can tell when you thaw it. If it has not been thawed out, the shrimp are all whole. If it's been thawed and refrozen it will look like redish crap. After you see the difference you'll know what to look for when you buy it. I get San Francisco. It comes in small easy to use cubes.

yes i did add a tiny bit from the bag with the wheeler goby. this thing was gonna end up on the floor he was crazy
it wasnt much since i drained out 90% of the bag and it was mixed with my water
everything looks ok right now, tho im not sure how soon effects of copper will take place
this is something i rarely do, but when ya got a freaky fish sometimes ill panic and do it
keepin me fingers crossed
oh and the mandarin has moved lol
