I goofed ! New Tank parameters ...

I have a thread under the Reef build off and I just realized that I have a 75 Gal not a 55gal tank. I have no idea what I was thinking .... is two dual 400 watt halides still too much light? I have a feelin that I am goin to end up using only one .... I don't want to fry my fish ... I just picked up two 96 watt power PC lights that I am goin to use with this tank. I will be using two acintic bulbs. Will this be sufficent for all kinds of corals?

dual 400w's wow,
even for a 75 might be too much

I'd go with 20k bulbs to get the best effects, and not use the pc's at all

can you sell/return the ballasts for some 250's
you really will be more happy with them
the sockets should be the same

i would use them all, only id use just the pcs for most of the day with the halides only on for a few hours probably. id forget about softies and lower light corals though. sounds like a great sps, and clam setup! the halides could be toned down by having them higher off the top of the tank

Too much light

I was kinda hoping for a few softies ... maybe if I put them at the bottom of the tank? Thats a god idea ReeferMike, maybe I can put them higher above the tank .... I guess I will need to test and see ...

2 X 400 watts plus PCs? Yikes! Plano, there are two types of people in this world, those who think you can NEVER have too much light and those who do. For a softie tank, I think you got way too much light for a 75 gal tank. If you already have them, you can always return it or trade it or sell it. Go with the 2 X 250 watt and I think you will be much happier and so will your softies. Otherwise, if you are absolutely stuck with what you got, do what Mike says and raise them higher off the water and keep them on for a shorter period.

definetly try to switch them out for 250's

I know a guy with (3) 400's on a 200g tank, and he's cooking all his corals
