I found and 8,000K Bulb...Can I use it??

I was searching for Astralux 70 watt metal halide aquarium bulbs and came up with an 8,000K HQI bulb for planted tanks. I know they sell 6,500K bulbs for reef tanks, so would it be possible for me to use this 8000K bulbs and supplement with actinics?

Also, its only 20 bucks....why so much cheaper than the aquarium bulbs which are 45? Thanks.

Chad

Dont know about the price but yes you can use it. At that low of a K value it will give of a yellow color so depending on your taste youll want the actinics as you mentioned for sure!

i agree. with that low of a k rating your in for some very brown coral. the price is ok, but when you look at the cost for the additional supplimental actinics you may want to change your mind.

I actually already have the actinics so it might not be such a bad idea. Does anyone know anything about the Astralux brand? Thanks.

Never heard of the brand either. But yes, you can definately use the bulb; it will just be more yellow to the eye.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a try and see how it works.
