I.d please

I bought what I thought was a peppermint shrimp for my 29gallon and now my wrasse has been missing for 3 days and my "peppermint shrimp" is always out and follows my mag float around when I'm cleaning the tank. My cleaner shrimp runs from the "peppermint shrimp". This shrimp seems to stalk moving things in the tank and I know that this is not typical behavior for a peppermint. So does anyone have any ideas what this guy is before he takes a roller coaster ride down the potty or can he be a seafood kitty treat if he ate my wrasse? Oh yeah and it has yet to eat a single aptasia...the job I bought the little bugger for!!!

Yep that's a peppermint, of the Lysmata family. Lysmata wurdemanni or L. rathbunae. Problem is they are almost Identical, except for a few marking pattern differences, very difficult for "experts" to tell the difference, L.Rathbunae has no interest in aptasia. Actually it's a bit more complicated than that. L.wurdemanni is part of a 6-species complex. The publication delineating the species also includes a color image of them. Differences between some of them are subtle. Not only does feeding & behavior vary by species but individuals within a species may have quite different feeding preferences.
Rhyne, A.L. and Lin, J. 2006. A western peppermint shrimp complex: redescription of Lysmata wurdemanni (Gibbes), description of four new species and remarks on L. rathbunae Chace (Crustacea: Decapoda: Hippolytidae). Bull. Mar. Sci.79(1):165-204
