Those little balls are mercury. IT did not get in your tank did it? I think you will be ok as long as you did not rub it into your skin and washed your hands. In the tank, that is different.

Actually it is breathing the mercury vapor that is harmful. So it was good not to let it stay on the floor. Take your trash out.

about you or the fish? Is it a ventilated or unventilated room? Did you clean it last night or today?

when I was young, I was home sick one day I stuck one of the thermometers that goes into your mouth into a boiling pot of soup that was on the stove ... It completely melted glass and all. I didn't tell my mom till we had ate some (I was like 4-5 years old) she of course freaked out and thought I poisoned us all. I avoid those types all together now!!! Hopefully it didn't get into your tank though.

aren't those little balls just lead, that are put down in the tip to weight it down, the mercury would not come out as little balls, but rather as one big metallic blob.

i don't think that having lead in your tank is good either.

well i had it on the top of my light fixture (i just put it there for a second i know it was stupid) and it slid of and onto my glass hood and it broke but the balls went flying everywhere and I have open parts in the back of the hood where all the inlets and outlets go into the tank.
