Hydroplex = Junk

I know I've touted a couple other Ruby Reef products such as Kick Ich and Rally, but I've got to take a few minutes here to inform you all not to ever buy their hydroplex product (at least for use in a hospital tank). Two tangs (yellow and purple). Both tangs started showing mild signs of marine velvet so I put them in quarantine with hydroplex (which claims to stop just about anything). The yellow went in first and the purple a few days later when I noticed a few tiny spots of velvet. A few days later, both tangs were totally covered and finally died after that.

I can understand that not every fish that goes into the hospital would come out, but these fish - especially the purple tang - had just begun to show symptoms.

There is no valid excuse in my mind that Ruby Reef could possibly have to explain why their product had no more effect than pouring water into the quarantine tank. I urge everyone to stay away from this particular product.

Finally, I looked on the back and one of the ingredients is urea; does this suggest that they're selling a bottle of pee?

Well it is a by product of urine I have never been bashful about expressing my opinion of Ruby Reef in general, after inviting the owner to come on here as he did several of the "Big Boards" (he ignored me), but no matter. The bottom line is BEware any claims to cureall and be Reef Safe, it aint happening. IF it was true, I guarendamtee you, it would be all over Reefs.Org, ReefCentral, and any of the other million member boards.
The fact is there is no one cure all, each and every disease and condition has specific parameters for growth and cure.
I have seen em come and go over the years but nothing that creates a duplicatable result in every case, no matter what or who

I'm sorry to hear that the fish died.

The life cycle of the parasite which causes Marine Velvet takes about 30 days to run its' course, if you have no other fish in your display tank, the parasites will be deprived of a host and will die.

If it were me, I'd remove any remaining fish from my display for 5 weeks, add them back to the display and watch them for a while before I added any new fish. I'd also quarantine my incoming fish for at least two weeks, just to be safe.

Just my $.02.
