Hydor Koralia question
I read some where that the Koralias could be used on a Seio wavemaker/controller. Is this true? the seio controllers say they should only be used with seio pumps, any ideas?
and if they do work, what would be a good set-up to run 2 of them in a 29 (SPS dominated)? #2's or #3's?
thanks
Jsaon

The koralias i don't think are designed to cut on and off. This might shorten the life of them. But I have 2 koralias4's and they are awesome

They will work fine on the seio controllers. They ramp the speed up and down, not turn the pump on and off.
There are rumors of hydor releasing a wavemaker for the korilas in the near future

Interesting
I just have a SCWD hooked up to my return and have them pointed at the koralias. It does pretty good job.

well, I am just weighing out all my options right now. I want to et this 29 set up soon, but am running into all kinds of issues. I originally wanted 2 of the tunze 6025's but I can' find them anywhere. then I though about doing something with a SCWD, but don't know what. then I read a post about the koralia's and a seio controller that sparked my interest, but it is a little bit more money. what is it like with the 2 koralias and a scwd? to you get a good alternating current? how big is your return pump?

I've heard that too. Hopefully, it won't be too long before it comes out.

The SCWD does pretty good you can see the xenia catch a big surge every now and again. My return is about 500gph. Anything to disrupt the flow will work. I also saw a thread where someone modded a SCWD into a 4way.

well, I used to have a 20 gallon with a scwd, and liked it, but I don't want just that especially with SPS. I have thought about the 4-way mod, but I would need a decent sized pump to run it and get the flow I want. And, with a bigger pump, I would be running more wattage. I really like the low wattage of the Tunze and Koralias. So, if I ran a couple Koralia pumps, and a SCWD on my Mag 5/7 return, and directed the SCWD outputs towards eac koralia, would that give me a good turbulant flow, or would I just be wasting the SCWD?

I think that would work.

I might have had bad luck but the hydors don't hold a candle to the tunze's, the tunze has true wide flow whereas the hydor is like two jet streams. Not to mention the Hydor is double the size of the tunze with a red propeller

Really? .. you must have one of the very first ones .. the impellers on mine are white and they are the same size as the tunze ... if not smaller ... and put out pretty much the same flow pattern ...

This is very unusual. I have the Koralia and it has a very WIDE stream and just about everyone else with it has had the same experience. Perhaps there was something wrong with the particular ones you had?

Size and propeller color are different for each model. I have a pair of the 4's and really like them. My tank is 4 feet wide and I don't find them (the 4's) very intrusive. For a smaller tank like your 29, I would think the 2's or 3's would be fine.
