Hydor Deflector

Anyone ever use these?

http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_...c.asp?ast=&key=

I am thinking of installing them on the two outlets of my CLS. How often do they need cleaned?

*Sorry for the long link, I tried but couldn't figure out how to rename it to make it smaller.

Whatever U get dont get there PowerHead!
If u need a pic I will post...I bought it and I put it in the tank and said this is a Peice of Crap, it is setting in the box. Seeing as I dont like the PowerHead I would not buy any of there Products.
That is my 2cent.

I've run one for awhile and am not all that happy with it. They are quoted at working with powerheads producing between 80-310 gph, but mine will randomly stop spinning despite a range of flow rates being tried. It will stay stuck until I come along and prod it again. It will do that even after having been cleaned out. It's a nice concept, but the mechanism needs to be built better.

I would have to agree, I have one and it is attached to a powerhead. While it is attached it does a great job, but then it will stop as the others have said. Presure builds up and it gets shot across the tank knocking over whatever is in its way. If it does it again it will be going in the bin.

I have two no Maxi-Jet 1200's. I have had them on for almost a year now. No problems what so ever. I cleaned them once so far. They never stop unless a snail stop it with the large shell but it keeps pushing water through. Once the snail moves it goes again. It has really randomized my flow. I was getting dead spots in the tank until I put these in. For $10 you can't beat em.

I use them too... one on a maxijet 900 and one on a maxijet 1200.... all in my 29 gallon... everything is so much happier since I started using them, especially my green bubble tip anemone, he has almost doubled in size because of the good random flow. I have foam prefilters on the maxijets so the anemone can't get sucked up, so they do slow down once in awhile when those need rinsing off but that is no big deal. I really like them alot and for the price you can't really go wrong.

Hmm, I must've gotten a bad sample, then.

Do you guys have yours pointing downwards or at an angle?

Thanks,
Dan

HMMM.. they can only point "out" not up or down... and then they rotate 360 degrees. While they rotate the flow goes around with the deflector to create random flow in the tank. You can change the angle of the maxijet with the nozzel but it doesn't go up or down either. does this make any sense... somehow I don't think so.

Actually, I was going to attach them to the end of my loc-line nozzles on my CLS. That way I can move them up, down, left, or right to direct random flow to any part of the tank.

If that can be done, I'll get some too!

Thanks Jenni. Kudos to you for trying.

I forgot the maxijets don't allow for vertical angle adjustments. I've run mine on a spray bar nozzle as well as different power heads that let you run the tank mounting clamp loose enough so that the powerhead itself is slanted downward.

I guess I was just thinking maybe these are more prone to having problems if they are mounted this way as opposed to straight out. (shrug)

Thanks,
Dan

They don't do well over 295 gph push, but they are good on powerheads. Easy to clean, simple mechanism. You can adapt them to fit on loc-line.
