Huge Toadstool

I have a huge toadstool leather growing in my 75g. Its about 4 years old and I've nursed it since it was just a wee baby. Problem is that it's getting too big for the tank. It's now reached the water level and completly shades the left side of the tank. The caps gotta be at least 2 feet round.

Do I stand the chance of losing it by cutting her up? Any suggestions on how to would be appreciated.

Maybe I should just get a bigger tank?!

FRAG HER! it will survive, just leave a small amount of the cap in that you like, just cut the cap to the size you want, and keep the trimmings as frags, just sew them onto a piece of rubble and you will have enought to get some other corals. these are super hardy

I had a similar one that was about 2' across... I lopped off the top, remounted it, and sold it - someone out there is looking for that kind of centerpiece. The base will regrow a nice crown in a matter of months. In fact, I have now lopped off 3 complete crowns from this toadstool. If you just cut the top off, you don't lose any diameter. Little toadstools are a dime a dozen... but a big one can be worth a lot more.

Anyway, it should be fine however you decide to frag it. They're quite hardy.

Good luck,
Danielle

I chop mine up all the time. cute it back real good, change the water after you do it as it may slime up pretty good. I give mine to the LFS as they dont pay for them but what the heck, got to save room for the other corals right?
