HQI MH Hood

I am new to the site. I have a 75 gallon with 100lb LR. I want to start to keep corals and a Clam (T. Crocea or Maxima) . I saw on Aquadirect that they have a 48in. hamilton hood with dual 250w HQI mh with 110W VHO Actinics. I know that the hood is designed to sit on the aquarium. It has the uv glass and two fans. My home is 74 degrees and the Aquarium is 76 degrees. Will this hood overheat the Water. I have approx. $1000-$1100 TO Spend. I would not have enough for a chiller. Coral life has a new Aqualight pro with dual 150 HQI, would this be better --- I want to keep a Clam.

Thank you for your help!

maybe I'm wrong, but I thought those fixtures were meant to be hung above the tank, or at least 8"away from the water. The tank would heat up less if the fixture was hung above the tank or somehow propped above the water.

For those people with the Hamilton hoods, do you hang it or let it sit on the tank? I'm interested in knowing as well.

hang or sit on top

the orbit hqi comes with both tank legs and a hanging kit I have the 2x150 mh with pc's and led's and chose to hang mine, because it is easier to get into the tank, as far as cost goes my lights 48" and chiller were just under 1000 so you might have enough for both.

Welcome to TRT!

Hamilton is good, I have been using them for years, With that light you will be able to do anything, You can even on your 75 goe with 150 watts.

Did you rest your Hamilton lights directly on the tank or hang them a few inches higher?
