How to switch tanks, add some new rock, and avoid the cycle...

Can anyone shed some light on this? Im a little weary about the upcoming switch from a 29 to 39.
I will be adding rock to fill the new tank and a new sand bed.

Id live to do the switch all day on a Sunday and avoid a new cycle.

I went from 39 to 100 in 2 days so 10 gallons can be much differant if not way eaiser.

The only thing I did was fill the tank 1/2 up with new made salt , let it cycle for a day ( more like 15 hours ) and then transfered everything over with the fish being last.

Granted the only thing i had in the tank was fish , LR and sand.

I'm a pro at this. I've done it several times without any loses. Except for this one time, I lost a small frag in the rocks. Transfer all of the water that you can from your old tank to the new tank. Add your old rocks. Fill up the rest of the tank with new water. I'd wait a week before adding more rock. That will always cause a little ammonia spike, so I'd think it best to not add any during the switch. I've moved from 10 to 20 to 37 to 55 over the past four years and moved the tanks 6 times.

as long as you keep the orientation of the LR between the two tanks you will keep the chance of a cycle to a minimum. it is when you put a rock that used to be rights side upside down in the new tank that you can run into problems with a small cycle.
