How to Remove a sponge ?? Pics

Back in April I bought a cool Clove polyp rock at IMAC. Over time it has become the rock from Hades .

This is when I first got it

This is 4 months later still looks pretty good but it's starting to spout Halemedia

In September you can see the blue sponge starting

Fast forward to the present I moved the rock to the 5.5 and really don't like this sponge and it's spreading onto other rocks

Whats the best way to get rid of it???

I had the same thing happen to some zoos. All I did was take them out of the tank set them on a wet paper towel for about 10 minutes. That killed the sponge but did not harm the zoos at all.

You could also move the rock up higher so it get plenty of light and that will make it die off slowly

like harman said. take it out of the water. leave it out for as long as you want. the polyps can handle several hours if you want. if 10mins work that is great i was going to suggest a half an hour.

I agree too! Sponge won't live if it goes out of the water!

If I let it sit out do I need to scrape the sponge off or anything or is it OK to let it die off in the tank? The sponge is exposed to light right now it's in a 5g tank at the top under 36w of PC's

i just rip mine off with some tweezers. could be wrong. letting it sit out then romoving would be your best bet. less die off. spounges will get nasty.

Are you sure that's a sponge? If so, I gave some bad advice in the recent past about their potential for invasiveness.

I'm not sure Chris but it feels slimy and spongy. I did have it out of the water for a few minutes when I switched it from the 24 to the 5g with no ill effects

if you are bored and want to pick it off while it is out of the water, go for it. as long as it gets nice and dry while out of the water it should die off pretty quickly. most small pore sponges seem to handle beeing out of the water for a few minutes, it is in the 10's of minutes that they do not like so much.
