How to properly harvest caulerpa

I'm not sure what strain of caulerpa I have, but I was reading if you harvest it improperly that it could lead to chemicals getting into the tank from the plant... Do i need to get some harvesting shears or what? I just was clipping the leaves in half... my leaves look like little individual leaves on on straight stalk...

So whats the proper way, anyone??

We just rip it out in chunks with our hands. I've never heard of a special harvesting technique. Look at it this way- many people feed it to their fish. If being ripped caused a toxic release, you think you'd hear more about it.

If you have a sump with caulerpa in make sure you take it from the bottom half of the sump so that it grows uniformly rather than like a canopy (on top)
