how to get a 90° right out of a bulkhead?
I was wondering what is the best way to get a 90° turn right from the bulkhead as flush as possible? Ive heard of maybe using something called a u-seal. Maybe uing something like a street elbow? I want to plumb my pump externally but dont have too much room and would like to have the pipe as close as possible to sump wall.

Ideally in that situation you would just be using a bulkhead with a slip connection. You would then simply attach the 90 and that would definitely get you plenty close to still allow for the pump to sit next to it.. You can also get shallow bulkheads that dont come out so far. Im not familiar with the u-seal you mention.

I found a link for the u-seal. Its actually called uniseal and was wondering if anyone has ever used this and would it work to plumb a pump to the sump and be airtight.
here it is

For what its worth im not sure i would trust that if you consider the disaster that would happen should it fail. Get a different bulkhead if it needs to be closer. I havent used one though so maybe it would be fine.

Don't forget that you want to be able to remove the pump for cleaning. So you'll have to figure out a way to squeeze in a ball or gate valve between the pump and sump.

i have used uni-seals many a time. they do work great. they need very round holes in order to work. they can seal up to a 1/2" thick material. this may be your best option for as flush as possible. that way you could put an elbow directly behind it.

You could put a regular bulkhead in backwards so the outside part is as flush as a uniseal. I did this under my stand when I was short on space as well.

when you put the bulkhead backwards, did u leave the plastic grommet on the inside of the tank or did u move it to seal from the outside?

The gasket always goes on the side of the surface w/ the flange. Or opposite the nut.
Since if it's on the same side as the nut it will pinch the gasket and leak.
I had to do this as well (put the bulkhead on inside-out) so to speak on my cls. Make sure it is all good and tight (don't overtight) and check for leaks! Then just use a street-el. I needed a close fit as well to get this snug up against a wall!
Can sort of see here. The big middle two bulkheads!

thats exactly what Im looking for, thanks gain. Now how do I know how tight it should be? Tight enough to make sure the gasket bulges out a bit from under the flange?

Pretty much hand tight then a little bump w/ a wrench is plenty. Check for leaks. If it does give it just a little more tightening. If still leaks. Undo it and try again.
