How to find a mate for my True Perc?

Probably another one of those questions that's been answered a 100 times right? But...

I've got a True Perc about 3" long and it's RBTA. I thought it would be fun to have a pair but was wondering what the chances of it accepting the new fish in the tank would be? I know the new fish needs to be smaller, anything else I should know. If it's going to mean rescuing a fish out of my tank a few days after I don't think I want to go there.

go buy about 3 of them and put them all together... you will see who is the winner pretty quick.

Make sure they are smaller as well.

On a more serious note....True Percs are not one of the most aggresive clowns and are somewhat easy to pair up.

Get another one around 1" in size. Considerably smaller than the one you have. There may be a small scuffle at first then they will each choose their own space in the tank. They may not hang around each other for quite a while. When they get ready, The female (Larger one) will allow the male into her anemone and then you know she's accepted him as her mate.

You are very welcome. I have a pair of True Percs myself in my show tank. I love them. I paired them up myself the way I just described to you. Had them for about 6 months now with no problems. They share a large GBTA.

Best of luck to you.

I bought mine when they were .50-.75". I picked one a little bit larger, and one smaller. Obviously youre past that now though, so that doesnt help much. But mine hang out together and interact. They share my xenia. The pair is definitely more enjoyable than just one I think..

If you have a large Clown that has been alone for 3 months or more it is a Female! They always turn female when alone and can not change back.

The female is always bigger than the male in a pair.

Juvis are all males from birth.

What about tomatos?

We have one tomato and I was wondering if we could add another smaller one for a mate?

Yes to both questions. While True Percs and False Percs "Can" pair up it most often won't lead to fry. If you are not sure what you have you most likely have a false perc. Most of us True Perc owners know for sure what we have.

Tomato's are one of the meanest clowns. You can add a much smaller one but watch them. If she beats him too badly get him out. You can try this over and over until she accepts him.
