Im not a fan of Tomatos. I like the way they look, thats all fine. But I had one in a tank with a pair of false percs, a LM blennie, and an ugly damsel. He was just going to town on all 4 fish, it was ridiculous. So I threw him back in the larger tank with the puffer. Now he seems to be buddy buddy with my rabbitfish.

To add to that... I have seen some juvenile tomatos in the same tank together at the LFS. Im assuming they are tank raised, but that would be a very good base. Starting with them knowing each other......

Well Strike 1.
I bought a small 1" percula yesterday. I acclimated him (float) for about 15 minutes. Then I mixed a little water for a bit and then put him in the tank. About 6 hours later he was dead.
I tested the LFS water and it was 1.021 SG so I knew the salinity was off a bit. I didn't have time to acclimate as much as I wanted since I had to leave.

Sounds like he was not real healthy to begin with.

Possible I suppose but the LFS said he'd been there a few weeks and he looked perfectly fine and alert. In fact he browsed over to the RBTA and was promptly shown his way out by the larger clown. He nailed him pretty good but the new smaller clown swam to the other side of the tank.

Fish die, Sometimes they just can't handle the one more move, It happens, If the LFS water and Your water was good and about the same , I would say he just didn't take well to the move, Stress may have been a factor

Yep, It's the second fish I've had die out of the last 5 I've bought. It can be frustrating. I'll just have to try again. Turns it into a $40 perc rather than a $20. I just lost my Christmas Wrasse after a week too unexplicably. The LMB and foxface are doing great as well as everyone else.

I heard another method on this last weekend. Take the fish to the LFS and try putting other percs in with it to see if they pair up. Has anyone done this? The hard part about that is I'd somehow have to catch my perc. Pretty hard in a tank with 200lbs of rock. Not worth it IMO.

That would be the last thing I would want to do. Way too much stress on the fish. Stress brings on disease. I could just see my clownfish dying because I caught him/her and bagged him/her to take to a store to see if he/she picks a gf/bf and then bag up again and bring back home. I'll pass.

I was thinking the same thing too. I wouldn't want to lose him. I'd rather lose the new tiny one I bought at the store.

Yea, I had the same problem. I ended up losing either 5 out of 6, or 4 out of five, I can't remember. I got two originally, then the next day or so one died, so I took it back to the LFS and got a free replacement, then a couple days later the replacement dies, take that one back and get another one and that one dies the next day. Would have gotten another one, but the LFS didn't have any for about 3 weeks. Was in the store at the time they brought in the new shipment, so they didn't even go into their tanks yet, so I was able to rule out any disease in their tank water and a couple days later, I notice it twitching and spazzing and then die.
I got my water checked multiple times at the fish store, to confirm my readings and everything was perfect. I even had my Reefkeeper II on my quarantine tank to manage everything and keep everything stable.
So, I only had one survivor and now he is in my main tank and is doing fine. In a few months, when he gets bigger, I will look into getting him/her a mate.
I hope to have much better luck this time around.
So, don't sweat it, these things happen, just keep trying.

OK, so round 2 on the 2nd Percula. He's been in for around 5 hours. I've had the lights off most of the time. He actually quickly hosted in my Xenia. The problem is, he's been taking a serious pounding from my other bigger Percula that I'm trying to pair him with. I can't even turn the lights on with him pounding the living daylights out of the new Perc. The new one is wearing down quickly. How long will this go on and how long will I have to leave the lights off for?
I'm not expecting them to pair right away but I'd like the big one to mellow out eventually.

tash, have you considered using one of these?
I have a lot of clowns and I've never tried to pair them without using something like that for a few days.

I don't have one of those. Do you just put the new one in there to let them get used to each other? Does it just hang on the side or have suction cups?

Well, the new Perc has managed to escape assination from the female now for almost 2 days. He hides out below the rocks and manages to sneak into his favorite Xenia sometime during the nite by cover of darkness. Once the room brightens he makes his escape to the rocks.
