How to Cure Fungus

It appears that my Black Dommino Damsel has fungus on his Dorsal fin and Pectoral fin, it looks like he is also beggining to get a fungus spot on his Caudal fin. I have him in a hospital tank and currently using Melafix. I was reading a book i have called " YOU&YOUR AQUARIUM" by Dick Mills. The book talks about aquarium fish keeping and diffrent types of fish both fresh water and saltwater.

I was reading the part for FUNGUS TREATMENT and it states "Pre-soak cotton in water squeeze it nearly dry, then dip it providone iodine or mercurchrome. take the fish out of the tank (it will survive for 1-2 minutes). Holding it in a wet cloth, and use the prepared cotton to wipe off the fungus. Then transfer the fish to a hospital tank treat it with a proproetary broad-spectrum treatment. Find the initial cause of fungal attack and remedy it.

my question is, is this what i am suppose to do to cure him? it did not state if its for saltwater or freshwater. And if so where do i buy Providine iodine or mercurchrome? The last part where it says abou after treatment treat hospital tank with proproetary broad-spectrum treatment, does that mean the melafix?

i don't know if i would use mercurchrome; mercury is pretty toxic in general. I'm not sure where to point you for Povidine Iodine, maybe your LP (Local Pharmacy, add it to the list of acronyms). If you can't find any, just google it and have it shipped. Any medical supplier should have it, and it doesn't require a special license to buy. Just keep it off your clothes and wear gloves. It stains. Also, I think iodine would be pretty safe to use in a reef, since it is a component of our salt mixes.
