How smart is it to put creatures from local shore into reef tank

Hello all;

I am thinking of putting some small creatures from the ocean into my reef tank(snails, a muscle ..) I live near Cape Cod and I may or may not do it??
Any thought? Also maybe some sand a cup or 2???
Thanks

Hi MikeP!! My gut feeling says no to doing that because you don't know what parasites are carried on the critters and in the live sand. It could be contaminated.
The water conditions in the Cod are probably quite different to your water conditions in your tank so acclimation may be a problem! Others I am sure will add more to this topic!
What part of Mass are you from if I may ask? I worked on a farm in Littleton, Mass when I was in high school. I was born in Malletts Bay, Vermont. Johnny

I agree with Johnny. I don't think they would survive in your tank, and they could introduce something into the tank that could wipe out other creatures. I am not sure what the temperature of the water is up there, but I am sure that it is quite a bit cooler than the water in your reef and in the tropics where most of our corals come from.
