how should I ship it?
I have a rock with a tulip anemone on it, and I have a new home lined up. What is the best way to ship it? It's going from WI to MI and I wonder if priority mail would be ok? I hate to ask for the reciever to cover the cost of overnight shipping..... also, how much water in the bag? I want to do it right so that hopefully it lives through its journey. Thanks!

Just enough to keep it submerged in water and im sure it will be fine.
Priority mail is fine. Overnight shipping would make for one expensive Tulip

really, no water? I thought of putting it in a ziplock with water, then removing as much air as possible... that's why I'm asking you guys! Yeah, where do I get a heat pack, how much? Man I gotta get to work! Thanks!

im the new home for her annenomoe, lol, so ill be monitoring this thread aswell. id love for it to arrive alive and i cant see wet newspaper being sufficient to keep this thing alive during its trip. i was thinking a small styrofoam container(like you would use for fishing) and the rock/annenomoe in a bag with a heat pack. ive never dealt with shipping live things before so anyone with experience in this please chime in!

Many hearty things such as zoas and mushrooms can be shipped damp as greenbead described. I would honestly try to ship it priority with a couple of heat packs.......im willing to bet it lives. If it doesnt, you are only out 5 or 6 bucks instead of spending $30 for overnight shipping a majano/tulip anemone.

I would ship it in water myself....but i honestly dont think it would matter much. They are pretty tough animals. What do you think Bean?? You think this here majano would be more likely to make it in water with heat packs or just damp with heatpacks for priority mail??

Hopefully heat packs are like those you use for sitting around a hole in the ice so you can rig up if you are out when it is really cold.
I don't use them but see them at all the gas stations up here and pretty much every sort of ranch or outdoors store near the camping stuff. I am just concerned that it might get too warm in the shipping container.
I ordered from one place and it was 20 below and specified two heat packs and inside the foam container the water reached me after overnight fedex at 75 degrees inside the bags.

i agree with greenbean on this. i would just ship the rock wrapped in wet newspaper. this is how i would also ship shrooms and zoas. these guys are used to be exposed to the air in bright sunlight for several hours. being in a dark damp bag will be a cake walk for them. when exposed to air they seal up and protect themselves.
i would add a heat pack though if the air temp is going to be less than 60.

Ditto , wrapped in wet newspaper,,,,Ask any shop who gets their stuff transhipped,,,,comes from around the world,,,no water, wet newspaper and hot /cold packs as shipping locations dictate.
I have personally unloaded many tons, yes tons of LR,,and many many boxes of anem rock,,,,damp is the most amount of water in all of them.
Temps right now what it is at both send and receive,,heat packs would be the way to go,,only thing is, i don't know of anything heat pack-wise,,other than those handwarmer packets for people,,but those are not temp regulated,, warm weather packing is easier to take care of.
What you are wanting to ship ,is the easiest of live stuff to ship.
I know a few wholesellers still , but i doubt if i can snag some heat packs for ya tho,but i'll try,,,

I have those handwarmers, thing is they only stay hot for 8 hours max, which won't help much on a 2 day journey...
So far I'm figuring on wrapping it in wet newspaper and putting it in a ziploc... can that just go into a box or do I have to buy a styro container as well???

Normal way is styro inna cardboard box,,The styro will keep the temp fairly constant,,,at least for a while. The ones the LFS's get their stuff in is way too big for just one thing,,,Any way to (double check with a LFS anyway) ask around to any local reefin' buddies,,and maybe they have gotten small stuff from a online/ mail order place,,and still have the shipping box,,and mebbe they can part with it, for what you need it for?
(i have most every one i got stuff from, but it would be real stupid to UPS you a empty styro/box)
