How often do you clean your U-Tube?

Today I noticed that my overflow box water level seemed a bit high. It's usually about 1-2 inches from the tank water line. After further inspection I found a forest of hair and coraline algea growing in the tube and box. Glad I noticed it, before I had a flood!

It's been about 3 months since I last cleaned it

When I had a u-tube I checked it every other water change or when I thought of it if sooner. I used a baby bottle brush to clean it if needed. Seemed like it was the only place I really had algae. Glad you caught it in time!

Get a toothbrush in there frequently!!! Stuff like that slows down flow and increases risk for siphon break!!

I got rid of my U- tube and drilled the tank last year because the bubbles gave me panic attacks.

About twice a month unless it has a lot of air in it, then I'll clean it before restarting the siphon.
