how many fish?

Putting some serious thought into the type of fish we want(other than the 2false percs and the antenna goby that are on vaca at the lfs till the tank is ready) is there some sort of formula(I thought I saw one on here once) 1" of fish per every 3 or 5 gallons or something like that?

I just read a article in Reef Hobbyist Magazine and this guy has a Blotchy Anthias, ORA misbar Ocellaris, clown pair, swallowtail angel, sunburst anthias, geometric hawk, and a ORA hi-fin cardinal in a 55g.

I havent looked up the specs on all those fish-but that seems like a lot

Dont know if theres a specific formula but id say like 1 inch per 3-4 gallons i guess
