Ours are on for 10hrs. Check your phosphates. You might need to run a phosban type reactor to help with that.

I leave my pc's on for 12 hours, and actinic on for 14, moon on constantly.
Are you scrubbing or siphoning off the algae every water change? Agreed with wanareef on the phosban or other non-Al2O3 based phosphate remover.

4-6 hours, but don't use me as an example. My tank is about to become a "do-over"

I keep my tank on a 9 hour day BUT I only have soft coral. I'm trying to reduce the ends of an algea issue and recover a tank back to shape, alternatively my rump (I love that term so thank you to the author of it) runs the other 15 hours a day so hopefully the macro has more chance to grow and suck out the nutriants.
Idealy, most of the things in our tank are from warm tropical waters and should prefer a 12 hour day 12 hour night. Thats what I'll be switching to once my tank is back to pretty shape

when i had halides, i would keep one side on for five hours and the other on for five hours. i also made sure they had about 2 hours of overlap. All my corals did really well and it kept the energy costs down. I also had 4-110w VHOS running about 10 hrs.

Haha jeeze drock... all I got is 72w of nothin... 24 gal stock nanocube whatever that is... pretty sure its 72w. But the hammer coral is doing VERY well. Added it two days ago and its noticable bigger already. Actually everyone is doing great except the torch coral, which is faded and looks bummed out.

What type of lights, and how long have you had them?
What type of tank (depth) ?
How many corals and what type of coral?
What biotope are you seeking to emulate?
What is the single most important coral in the tank for you?
Suggestions for photoperiod really are just guesses unless we know this information, what may work well for one type of lighting in one type of biotope may cause multiple problems and failure to thrive in another set of conditions.
