How long to add something new?

So my tank has been set up for 4 days or so, 75 gal with the cycled LR from my old nanos. How long before I can add a little more rock? ANd then what is the process for getting a fish in there?

Joanne, I think you are going to break the record for shortest time to get to 1000 posts! IMO, if you are going to add more rock, consider cooking your new rock first. During the waiting period, go ahead and add some fish and easy corals. You probably won't have much of a cycle at all since you are using existing rock from your nano.

There are fish and coral in there now. The ones from my nanos. Should I cook the rock in my quarantine tank for a while?

I can't keep up with her posting

I'll agree, get some pieces and let them cycle in a tub
(like the purple one I used to hold your stuff during the move)

I'm not very familiar with cooking rocks,

but the old school way was to
Let them sit inthe bucket for 2-3 weeks minimum
unless they are cured from the LFS, min 3 weeks in thier tanks
then rinse them out really good to remove any detritus
and place into your tank

You can buy cured rock, it just costs more. The description will tell you if it is cured or not.

K, I know I am new here, and I think I might be about to rock the boat.....

There is no such thing as "cured" rock. You are paying more for nothing. The rock that they call "cured" is impossible to have.

For the rock to get to you (assuming Air delivery) It is shipped out of water. Stuff is now dying. The rock will now need to be cured.

Most places are using the term Cured, to indicate that they have removed the large dead organism's (dead/dying corals, sponges etc) (and truely, that is the stuff I want on my rock, you would be suprised how much of it will start to grow again)

I am looking for an article now that I have posted this.... It is from an online retailer of Live rock, and he even states, that there is no such thing as cured.

Hope I am not upsetting anyone with this,

Not me! It kind of makes sense. But I started my nano with LR from the fish store and I never had any cycle. So whatever was going on with the rock was not terrible!

JT I believe that is correct for any rock you are having shipped to you but many Local LFS have large bins of rock curing or is cured by the time we purchase it. as long as it is transported wet very little will die off.

your not rocking the boat
most LR you get through mail order is NOT cured, I know that, I hope Joanne knows that as well

I'm talking about the 10-20lbs you pick up from the LFS
and want to add to your tank NOW
