how long do corals live?
Anybody know the life span of say a button polyp, a colony of LPS or sps or maybe a mushroom if left untouched and conditions are good?

Arent they in theory immortal? They dont 'age' like people. If conditions are perfect they could live forever

Apparently some anemonies and soft corals dont age and can live forever if they are not killed and have pristine conditions. Dont know about your corals though.

A famous word from one of the greatest sports movies ever "FOREVER" from The Sandlot.
As long as corals have great conditions, they will continue to propagate. Their skeletal structure keeps growing and more polyps emerge.

Then take in to consideration fragging...
The mother colony stays, the frags continue to grow elsewhere, so I guess they not only can they be imortal but almost "omnipotent" in the theory that one coral could live in ALL of our tanks at the same time!!!!
