How long can I keep water?

How long can you keep made up saltwater in a storage container if it is being circulated with a pump?

I usually let it mix for a day! then I let it sit as long as I need it.....usually it may sit for 1month or longer! but I have no clue how long you can let it sit in with a pump...I image you can't over mix saltwater!

I have never kept water for more then 2 weeks. It tends to get a bit "slimy" after that. The pump will definetly help prolong its life. I only have a 30 gallon so storage is not an issue. Some of these guys with huge tanks should be able to help more.

My husband was just thinking of putting a storage tank in the garage and plumbing it thru the wall for water changes. Like pulling water out while putting water back in. Does anyone have something like this? I am only doing 20 gallon w/c every two weeks. When your as small as me it is really a job to get it done by sucking out 5 gallons and dumping it down the drive and then again, and again.....

My husband thinks putting it down the drain is a bad idea. You know replacing corroded pipes. Ha Ha Ha.

I know lots of people have set up similar type systems.

The KEY is keeping the main vat at the right salinity. When adding new RO/DI water to make up for water taken out, you need to add JUST the right amount of salt mix.

proper marked measuring containers can make this easier.

But always test the salinity in the main vat before using water from it for WC's.

Thanks,
I built mine up over time. first plumbed in a chiller, then added water change valves, auto top-off, then a UV (I'm currently using the UV on my FO tank.) now I use quick connect hoses for the water changer valves.

I had to get float switches made to control a Mag 18.

These photos are lousy - I've replaced a lot of the plumbing:

I'll try to get fresh photos on this weekend - PM me if I forget.

Sorry, It's late and I have to get up early...
