how long can a clown go without eating?
I got a new clownfish 4 days ago and he hasn't eaten at all. I keep dropping in flake and pellet food and most of the time he doesn't even notice it. I even dripped some garlic juice on some food and he didn't take it. The pellet food is what he had been eating in the LFS too. It's starting to freak me out cause my first clown died from brooklynella last month. I haven't had any fish in the tank for almost a month to let the brooklynella die off. He isn't breathing fast or acting weird, and he doesn't have any visable lesions on him either. ANy ideas on what to do?

Im not sure, all I can say is that is unusual, My clownfish ate like a pig within minutes of getting in my new tank.

both mine in my 10g took a week to eat. id offer everything, they would go up to it but wouldnt eat it. i finally got them eating brine shrimp Flakes broken up finely, they seemed to like the bite sized pieces better than the whole flake.
i had them on that for a few weeks until i offered prime reef flakes also broken up small mixed in with the brine shrimp flakes. i weaned them off the brine and within a month they were eating like pigs. they wont eat anything else tho, not even frozen mysis.
ive heard that clowns can be fussy, and occasionally will refuse food. once you find something they like they chow down like theres no tomorrow

I dont know.....i only feed mine mysis once a week as it is.....but he eats pods as well.
I would try mysis next. Some finicky eaters will eat mysis over other stuff......

feed it mysis. i dont know but i think feeding flake or pellet doesnt have the nesecary lipids fish need. and live brine would be great, most fish cant resist a live food they just love seeing them move.

I use Spectrum TheraA. It is pellet and all my fish love it. Its not parasitic as well.

Well, the pellet I tried was the same stuff they had been fed in the LFS. This fish had been in the store for at least a week when I bought him and they seemed to eat when presented with food. Of course, with a tank of 20 clownfish, I can't honestly say I saw THIS particular fish eat. Anyway, I did a freshwater dip, approx 10 minutes and now he's back in the tank. I don't have a QT to put him in. He looks pretty much just like before, swimming around but mostly hanging around the powerhead. I relly hope he eats soon. I offered him some scallop bits but he didnt go for it. The hammer coral really enjoyed it though!

Another day and the hunger strike continues. He seems fine after the freshwater dip yesterday, went after a couple of pellets, took it into his mouth, then spit it out. Anybody with thoughts?
