how long before a tang devellops a taste for nori ?
so i got my first tang last saturday (a tomini)
yesterday he ate a few pellets of formula2, he's not really picking atthe algae on the rocks, and he didn't seem interested in the nori that i had put in the tank either.
could it be that he's not settled in the new tank yet, or does it take some time before he'll start eating properly ?

Ya mine didn't eat it for a while but finally got the hang of it and now he goes crazy for it. You'll probably just have to hang some in there in plain sight so they can notice it and start picking at it but it may take a week or so.

I have a blue hippo(not the brightest fish in my tank) for over two yrs he wouldn't eat it. I would clip it to the side of the tank and he was scared to death of it. He would go no where near it. Then I bought a yellow tang that had been eating it at the lfs. Once the blue hippo saw the yellow tang eating it and not getting murdered or any thing he started eating it.

i have read that nori isn't a good choice for food for tangs because of its lack of control in processing and the amounts of undesireable contents.i will post the link when i find it. it was stated by a guy that goes by the handle "leebca" on another site. he is the fish specialist on that site.

I have found that soaking some nori in garlic will really cut down on the time before he/she eats it. I use 100% real garlic paste from the grocery store. I mix a small amount of the garlic in water and then soak the nori for about a minute.
Been doing it this way since my first tang purchase and never had a problem

I had done an experiment about two years ago where I put a strip soaked in garlic on one side of the tank and one without on the other. The one with the garlic was fought over and gone long before the regular nori was nibbled on...

Agreed, I had a clown tang who would not go near it the first two weeks. There was something about the way it waivered in the current. When he became accustomed to the tank and noticed the little chromis munching it happily, he was quick to adapt. Some just take longer than others. Just keep offering and take it out after 30mins or so if he does not eat. Try feeding it to him when the actions around the tank (traffic) is slower and then leave the room. If you roll it up like a cigarette and leave one little part dangling, I have found it doesn't appear so "intimidating" to them initially.
