How is the epoxy suppose to work??

My friend gave me some epoxy that comes in a tube. There are two sections to the clay looking stuff and you mix it together with your hands then apply.

Well when I put it on the coral skeleton, it doesn't stick because it's wet. I tried holding it there for a bit, but with no luck. . . .how is this stuff suppose to work??

I havn't done it myself but have heard you let the epoxy sit and harden a little then attach the coral. If it's a branching type I would drill a hole of similar size in the rock you are attaching it to, apply the epoxy to the whole then put the skeleton in the hole.

when using the epoxy, you may need to build up around the base of the coral to get it to hold. you may even want to try using some superglue along with the epoxy.

Is it possible for epoxy to get old?

I mean this stuff doesn't stick at all to the rock that I'm trying to attach the coral to.

thats the only problem with epoxy, its not sticky, its not made to stick to pieces together. you have to use it like playdoh and wrap the base of the coral in it and kinda glob it to a rock.

Hows it suppose to keep something in place then? I would imagine that if a snail went pass this "playdoh" he would still knock it over

it will last awhile, the end that has been exposed to air may harden, but the rest will be ok. those epoxys dont really stick to anything even a little wet. the first time i used it was on some candy canes, i ended up making a mount from the epoxy around them that was almost as big as the rock they are on. but you cant even tell now.

I use it the green and white holdfast, It works , You have to put alot on the piece and then press it into the rock where You want it, Hold it down with pressure for a little while. I have corals in place and staying doing it like this, It is not the best, but will work.

I have tried them all botom line is they suck, super glue gel is better but doesnt hold large frags well, also the epoxy can burn corals as it cures and make em bleach I stopped using it a while back.

I have had the superglue gel work if I try the base of coral and the rock . I don't use the epoxy alot , But do everynow and then, I really am worried about adding junk into the water. But if I have something that won't stay upright, I will, Don't want to lose it by letting it fall behind the rock,

I am just starting to frag some of my corals and i have been using super-glue (loc-tight brand from HD) and have not had a problem with it so far everything had held in place

using the epoxy is an acquired skill. you need to pic an area on the LR that has a rough surface with some holes in it. you then wad up a bit more than you think you would need. start shoving it into the holes and the rough part of the rock. as it spreads out it grabs on to the rock. you then shove the coral into the epoxy. mounding it up along the base pretty heavily. it than has to stay perfectly still for the next 10min till it hardens.

not something easy to work with but if you have larger colonies that need special placements it is the only stuff that will work.
