How fast do lionfish grow???

Just curious about how fast Lionfish (volatans) grow. I've got a 55 I was thinking of setting up with one of these and two or three other fish...just curious how long before it would outgrow the tank???

Volitans grow very quickly.I got one as an undersized baby with a body length of about 1" and it grew to 5 inches in less than 6 months. The only upside to lions and the rapid growth is that they do not require huge amounts of swimming room being content to sit in one place for long periods of time and when they do decide to swim it is simple slow loops around the tank so IMO a volitan can be kept happily in a much smaller tank than say for example a Tang or Angel of similar size.....

a P. volitans will grow to over 14", and equally as wide! a 55 is only 12" wide. if you really want a lion i also would suggest one of the smaller species. a 55 will only be able to support a lion and one more fish. predators are messy eaters and produce a lot of wastes. it will be difficult to keep the system clean.
