how fast can an anemone move?
just bought a rbta from a local guy here. when i bought it it was attached to a rock but by the time i got it home it had detached itself. so i have it in a tupperware bowl in the tank with some rubble on the bottom of it and hopefully it will attach to a rock and then i can move it out into the tank. my concern is for the corals in my tank, i know the risk of an anemone but decided that its worth taking the chance. once i put it out in the tank i want to be able to hopefully move corals out of its path until it finds a place and settles in but im not sure how fast they can move. so about how long would it take to travel a foot?

I dont know what size tank you have but if you have anything within a foot of the anemone it could easily plow over anything within a foot of it while your at work or just out for several hours. Usually they move around till they find a spot they like and then hopefully will just stay there for years if your lucky.

When I first got mine he moved almost two feet overnight. then over the course of two days moved right back to where I put him first. Now he seems to keep around the same spot, not moving more than a few inches at a time. almost as if he is pacing back and forth.

I imagine it could move clear across the tank over night if it wanted to.

Yep for sure they can. They move fast enough to see them moving, so no problems there. Mine did it in my 75 all the time, I had to sell him because of it.

Make sure your powerheads are covered - I lost my rbta in the first night to my Tunze. It had planted its foot deep into a crevice and I figured it was secure, but after the lights went out, it went wandering around until it found my Tunze and got diced up . I've since read many other people lost their rbta to powerheads. They definately seem to like to wander around when first introduced.

Even if you get it to attach to a piece of rubble and you place it somewhere it is not happy it is going to move again...
I have a condy and it has been all over my tank, but it found a spot it likes finally and has been there for probably 6 months now. it is a nice spot right at the top of the tank under the lights (dead center of my tank...and it is growing like crazy)...my fish have to be careful not to get too close. I have never lost one to it, but it is always a possibililty!
