How does your blow go??? Poll on fans in your canopies
I am talking about fans in your canopies...... How is yours setup?
I bought a new fan and am not sure how to mount it.
I see sucking air IN and blowing across the water....
I see sucking air OUT of the canopy...
So... which one???

My understanding is that when possible, if you suck fresh air into the canopy rather than pull salt air out, your fans will last longer. This method has been working well for me. Also, if you can blow air across the length of the aquarium, this is more effective.

Both of my fans pull fresh air into the canopy and out of the back.

I had originally two of those 14" Radio Shack Fans which were suggested by several people that were using them. After three months they both burned out *splat*. I have a different fan now and need something getting air in there cuz those PC's get way too warm!!

We used to have four fans . Two on the side that blew air in and two on the back that sucked air out. It worked OK, but obviously not that good, we had to get a chiller!

I have two fans, mounted on each side of the canopy. One pulls air in and the other pushes it out. Works real well, helped keep the temp down this summer.

If you have any kind of 'vent' holes in the canopy or on the back, have the fans blow in. Evaporative cooling is the trick and ya really cant get that with a fan blowing out.

I see a trend forming here.
I have a hole in each side and two 2" holes drilled in the top to let heat escape.
I think I'll probably have it suck the air in and over the water...... Here goes my evap rate.

The reason I blow air in is the exact reason the Reedman has stated. I have one fan blowing at each end across the water and it has cooled my tank down 6 degrees

I have three fans in the canopy and one in the stand. Two in the canopy pull air in, one blows it out the back. The fan under the stand pulls air out.
