How do you Prep to work on your tank?

Just some thoughts since I've seen a post or two about messing up carpets and wood floors..

How do you prep to work on your tanks?

with my Fresh Water 55 Gallon, I have 3 Jumbo sized towels that I set on the carpet around my tank.

once thats set I can take the lights off (just basic canopy lights on top of a plastic Hood), and remove the hoods, place them on one of the towels.

Then i have another medium sized towel I keep over my shoulder to wipe off constantly as I'm in and out of the tank.

I tend to be very forgetful as I do this stuff, and have to run back to another closet to get the other Bowl, or bucket that I forgot to get the first time, so helps keep things clean..

how do you guys prep to get wet?

I was just viewing the menu of posts and I see this one, and the first thing that comes to mind...Hmmm, the first thing I do to prep is go to the refer to get a beer which I always set on the tank somewhere, which will inevitably get knocked over on the carpet, falling outside the perimeter of the towels I have placed down. No, not the saltwater, after 12 years of practice, it stays in the tank, just the beer. MM

Take off my watch, grab the 2x4 we use to prop the canopy open, and an handful of towels. (And my husband, to help lift the darn thing.) We had some old towels from Andy's auto detailing days, but when we were faced with upgrading the tank, I went to Sams and got a 12-pack of nice hand towels. They're dedicated fish towels now, and that way my kitchen towels (which aren't as nice, ironically) don't get used.

I also pull over the 4' ladder. I'm kind of short and need it to get in there. Who am I kidding. I am short. I usually have to throw a cat off of it, too - they like being up high.

when I remodeled my house, I had Spanish Tiles laid down in replacement of the carpet! I can ussually just let the water dry, and sweep up the salt
