Although I've not done it, I've been told that you can use a rubber band to train a branch of xenia to a new rock.

xenia you just use a sharp razor and cut off a stalk of it, then attach it to a piece of LR somehow. I've had problems attaching mine, still am in fact. Hard as heck to use a needle and fishing line and securely attach it to LR, and the rubberband I don't know if doing the best job. If I could do it over, I would buy plastic toothpicks like everyone says, then you stick two through the stalk of the xenia in an "X" pattern and tie down the toothpicks with fishing line. After a week I guess it is supposed to attach. Or you can jam it into a nice hole somewhere in your LR. Good luck, wish me luck mine stays put and attaches. My first coral, I don't want to lose it.

What are dikes and can you explain the break/cutting at the base?

Thanks,
Chris

I use a thin strip of tulle (think wedding veil - available at craft stores) and tie the xenia on. Works like a charm every time. Try it.

For xenia, you can just put a piece of rubble near a stalk so it's touching and it will spread over too the rubble and you will have a frag in a few days...

On the candy cane, you can break the skeleton anywhere below the polyp. Just don't damage the fleshy part. Many people use a dremmel tool to avoid accidentally breaking it where you don't want to.

On that dremel, you can get a "saw" blade and it'll cut right through but becareful it'll cut right through you too. As mentioned, cut at the "base" and what out for the fleshy part. When you take it out of the tank, make sure the polyps are retracted first before taking it out.

good luck
