How do you do a CORALINE SCRAP ?

Yesterday......someone mentioned how they "scrap" coraline off one rock to allow the coraline particles to float-around the tank to propagate a new rock to allow it to grow coraline.

HOW is this done?...... meaning what instrument do you use to scrap the rock (something metallic like a 'paintscrapper' or knife or wirebrush)?? or do you use a plastic-bristle brush? or what? how deeply do you scrap?

I would love a detailed explanation beyond just "scrap your LR"

Just scrape it off and sprinkle where you want it or just sloppily in the water column. You can use anything to scrape it with as long as it gouges deep enough. I have also taken larger sheets of corraline and glued them to rock i wanted covered......

I read somwhere to turn off your filter but leave the power heads on until things settle down after scraping

Ask a friend that needs his tank cleaned and volunteer to help clean it and maybe there will be some extra coraline that needs scraped off the sides just siphon it off and ask to keep it. most anyone will love the help in cleaning ther tank.

If I were going to do it, I'd probably just grab a butter knife (But I use butter knives for EVERYTHING!!)

Make sure that you turn off your return pump(s) for the coraline will be sucked away.

i use a razor blade. if the coraline is a little thick then it will come of as one and you could rubberband it to a rock. but if you have any just give it time and you should looking at purples and pinks every where in a mounth or two. i have a friend who asked me the same ? i gave him the same advice.

Use a razor or similar, but really coraline isn't hard to grow with proper calcium levels and patience

butter knives work great for gouging LR and scraping off corraline.

i would only use stainless steal implements. keeps the rusting to a minimum.
