Keep on keeping on....they will come sooner than you think. a refugium will accelerate their population growth but not necessary. I keep a healthy happy mandarin without a refugium, but my fish density is pretty low. Ive got 7" of fish total in a 80.

I didnt realize just how many copepods i had until i removed my mandarin for a few weeks. It is incredible how many they eat. If you dont already have a refugium and your mandarin starts looking hungry you may have to add one.

you can feed the tank more, but LR can only support so many pods. you might want to set up another tank just for keeping pods. i would not plumb it into the main system.

If he's eaten most of the ones you can see, I would certainly set up a fuge. My fuge is ridiculously loaded w/ pods. I will take handfulls of the macro and dunk it in the display in front of a powerhead and watch all the little tasty treats head for the rocks. Return it to the fuge to get loaded up again. My fuge has lots of rubble and aragonite w/ macro and stays loaded.

On a side note, don't mandarins eat the amphipods mainly not the copepods normally?

I've never used the product, but have seen "pod booster" in a bottle that is loaded w/ live pods supposedly. I don't know how good it really is though. I suspect your better off getting macro from and established fuge....

Lighted sump with a macroalgae farm, works the best with reverse photoperiod. You will see tons of them show up in your tank.
