I wanted more air If I put the stock volute back on it, which I still drilled out a tad, I'm sure I could get over 200 from it.

I've played around with the slower turn over in the skimmers from what I could derive from the oriental sites with thos incredible SPS displays. There seems to be a mix between large NW with slower throughput and massive becketts.

I found on the last tank I was pulling out some nastier stuff. Still filling the cup just as fast, but the stuff I was pulling would gag a plumber. On this build I'm sure I'll go back to playing and seeing what works best as I'm sure this one will be completely different from the last tank.
Huh,.. maybe mine will work better stock with a newer pump? Well, I can hope anyway It has to be better than an ASM G3 anyway just because of the larger design.

If I find it doesn't meet my needs I'll start messing with bigger pumps, more air, more water, whatever

I may just make it recerc with the OR3700 then be able to independantly control throughput, or drive it straight off the drains!

Thanks!
Whiskey

I think the gate valve is the place to start and go from there. Might be all that skimmer needs with a good, newer pump Like I said, I have no room for the gate valve and the riser tube makes me mad

I guess SW for seven years now. I did the typical small goldfish and tropical tanks for years and then got into 100+ gallon planted tanks a tad over 13 years ago.

I always wanted SW but thought it was going to be harder than I was capable of. I lerked in books and on the web for years and then one day after reading the concientious marine aquarist, I just did it

My current skimmer has a gate valve and I hate it,.. as the airline plugs with salt creap the water level in the skimmer changes drasticly,.. I think the stock skimmer would not do this as bad.

I already covered that item. My girls woke up early and took ALL of their books, tons of stuffed animals, and gobs of other stuff and carefully placed it around the house. Then they took the blankets off of their beds and made forts in the dining room. Oh and lets not forget the water park in the bathroom.
I was a meany today already.

The threat of no nick jr dot com got her motivated

It's already too hot to work outside today, so I may find something tank related to do until after 6pm. No dump run I guess...

Once a week I nuke a cup of ro/di in the microwave and then let the air intake suck the water out of the cup to keep the airline going strong.
