Hop, we are all strange! If the tanks all over the driveway, PVC and drilling glass dont freek em out, the strange glow of powerfull lights will! Everything else just confirms it!

I do love that skimmer though. If I didn't mention earlier, it is a custom made GEO recirc. It's 2" taller than the mass produced 46" tall version, the feed is higher so that I could add the elbows inside the body for the downward feed without worrying about unprocessed water making it out of the skimmer and it helps stabalize the foam head. Also the neck is longer than the mass produced one
|
That's not what I ment,.. I want the one in the picture
How fast do you push water through that thing?
Do you have any idea what the GPH out of the modded 8-2 skimmer is? Is there anyway for you to get a gallon jug under it and time how long it takes to fill it?
That is one nice Geo you have there it will work wonders on the smaller tank I bet.

That stinks did you build it? Or buy it? Having 70G of RO water on hand will be really nice though, I'm limited to 20, mainly because it's about what my fridge can support.

Glad your wet room holds water! That is a really nice trick, I wish I had a wet room to do that with, my carpet is all that holds my water.
Good work on the flood! That's the perfect way to break in a new system.

For the 450 system I was pushing about 700 gph through it. For this build with approx 300 gallons total, I want to slow it down to 250-500gph and see how it does.
I have no clue on the 8-2, the water throughput is definately lower than stock with the mods, but the air has to be double. just looking at it I'm guessing around 150gph... But I stress that is a SWAG!

Nah, I built it. It was not up to my normal par as I was one week out of surgery and medicated. I needed to get off the couch and I built something with some acrylic I had laying around. I'm not worried about it splitting, I just need to throw some 16 on it It doesn't have to be pretty as you only be able to see one seam and less than half the tank when it's in.
I'm guessing that 70 gallons should last about a week in the summer and 10-12 days in the winter so hopefully I'll only have to make water once a week. With the 450 I was making it every four days with only a 44 gallon brute as the reserve.

That's not going to do very well is it? I'd be turning my system over less than once an hour,.. maybe I could do the 9000 or the OR 3700 with the mesh mod? Then I could still push plenty of water through and have the massive ammount of air.
You shoot for 1-2X system turnover through the skimmer? Why is that?
Thanks!

Your not alone,.. I did the same thing with my Python,.. had to tell the lady next door that my sink blew up It doesn't take much water for it to make it into the next apt.
You can drop by anytime you want,.. I even have a couch you can crash on, but the wet room will have to wait until I find a job willing to pay me enough so I can get a house.

The 3700 with a mesh may do the trick! Keep in mind that my 5000 is about 6 years old and tired! Also I changed out the volute with one that only has a .75" intake for water and a 5/16" inner diameter air intake. I wanted more air If I put the stock volute back on it, which I still drilled out a tad, I'm sure I could get over 200 from it.
I've played around with the slower turn over in the skimmers from what I could derive from the oriental sites with thos incredible SPS displays. There seems to be a mix between large NW with slower throughput and massive becketts.
I found on the last tank I was pulling out some nastier stuff. Still filling the cup just as fast, but the stuff I was pulling would gag a plumber. On this build I'm sure I'll go back to playing and seeing what works best as I'm sure this one will be completely different from the last tank.

I am the moving crew
I'm really lucky actualy, the lady that lives next door to me is very nice, I used to hang out with her daughtor all the time, but I haven't seen Angie in years. Anyway, she doesn't care about music, or appernetly water, provided it doesn't get too over the top.
