Hey,.. I'm thinking about building a 4-6 foot tall skimmer to play with,.. I may not, but I'm thinking about it.
What recerc pumps are used on yours? Do you know how much air they pull?
Thanks!

Thanks.
Well the skimmer runs off two Gen-X 6000s. Modded from Geo (Intake only) they reportedly pull in the 38scfm area. Reading on RC, some people are getting over 50scfm with a modded volute and mesh mod. Honestly I meshed it before and it made some serious foam. But I had since put it back to normal due to the fact I thought I would be selling it. For now, I think I'm going to run it stock as I think that somewhere around 70 scfm(what I guess I'm getting) is pleantly for the skimmer and the 4.5" neck
It's one of those decisions that will likely change. But I can honestly say stock, it is more skimmer than I need and the mods will likely not make a difference as it is litteraly already rated for 3 times this systems volume

Do you know what the Mod's consist of?
I need to go find a conversion for CFM to L/M to figure out how much that is
Ya, I don't think you need to mod it at all,.. but it's always fun to mess with stuff
Thanks!

The mods are basically that they through the stock volute away and used 1" pvc. Inside the pvc is sort of a narrower throat that necks down right at the air intake and then he used a 5/16" ID nipple for the air feed. I have found out through playing with the other two gen-xs I have that if you don't do the oversized air intake, things sound like a small 747
And I think that is about 1100lpm per pump But I'm not sure!

WOH! One of those pumps is way too much then,.. I could try something like a Quiet one or something,.. I doubt I'll do this actually, but it would be a fun experiment

I've been hearing some nice things about the ocean runner pumps lately. They are reasonably priced and the watt draw is right there with the eheims.

haha! don't hold your breath.. but when we do buy a place though having a designated fish area will be a prerequisite (hopefully with a garage or other small utility type room directly behind it. it's going to be a year or two though.. I reckon.

Yeah the position of the wetroom isn't the best for this tank... It worked better for the other tank. I'll try to find a pic to show everyone where the tank is in relation to the room

Ha! I found it
SO this is not to scale. The old reef tank will be gone here shortly and this tank is going right where the 125 is posted. You can see how the room isn't where it shuld be, but it's too late to change things now I doubt there will ever be another large tank in the office... PLus I doubt we will be in this house for 5 more years

Well that is definately a good reason for not running one I recall a few people running them on closed loops without an issue... Dunno That's why I went with the eheim for a return. I know eheims

If anyone is looking for a rocking small fish that almost schoals in an aquarium... Here ya go... http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...atId=1431&cc=1 I'm going to have to wait until they are available again

To be fair I have the OR that is specifically made for use on the Turbofloater, so I'm sure it's not the same. I know one person that uses one external for a return and it doesn't leak at all, but the plumbing on the output of the pump is much different.
The big PITA is that the OR pumps use METRIC pipe
