Hoping to get an exact name for this coral
I have searched and searched. And the closest match I have found, is a candy cane coral. The only real diff. is mine are about 6" tall, and all the pics I found of CCC's, they are short, bout an inch of the rock. Anyway hoping to get a definite ID, so I know the best place for it.... Also in the pic is another coral, not sure of exact ID, pretty sure it's a toadstool lthr...
Any input will b appreciated..
Thnx
p.s. Sorry for the crappy pic, got a crappy cam...

Hard to tell from the pic. Is a better pic possible or description of the coral? Is it hard or soft? Does it have a skeleton or all soft flesh? Is the entire piece hard? Does it have polyps that extend?

It looks like a candy cane or trumpet to me. More so descript caulestrea of some kind.
The other is tough to tell from that pic
The skeletons on caulestrea get long sometimes like you mentioned. The skeletal arms on this one are not 6"...but 3 or 4" probably

i agree with fly, definatly some type of caulestrea, there are many different ones, the common names are usually misleading any way. but i would go for trumpet coral since the tubes are longer. i have one thats very similar. and i have one like fly's both are the same except for the length.

Thanks for the replies. Here is my best description, and another pic as bad as the first one. I M getting a new cam for xmas definitely...
Like I had said b4 it's bout 6"long, and it has six heads on it. the heads kind of look like the candy cane heads, except they have grn center with a hole in the very middle, looks like a lttl mouth. It has a hard skeleton, and the heads are semi-hard, they kind of pulse when it's happy, and retract when it's threatened. The main thing I M wanting to know, is should it be planted in sand or rock and what kind of flow to give it ( which reminds me, does anyone have a deflector off a mj1200 laying around, can't find mine,{ it's the little flow adjust thingy that looks like a vaccumn head). Started it out in sand, but kept falling over, so now have got it wedged in rock crevice... Hope this info helps....

It can go anywhere you want.....just keep the heads exposed and not buried in the sand or stuck in the rock

What ever it is, is it difficult to raise?

Thanks. Not sure which one you are talking about.....i looked but couldnt find that one.........
Im sure its a ricordia of some kind though. They are easy care for. They are one of my latest obsessions though...lots of cool colors you can find. They are easy to care for, your tank would support them just fine. They are one of the few things i actually do target feed at least every week or two, not becasue they need fed to be happy, but they will grow and split much more often if you do feed them.

Yep, the purple&orange mixed ricordia. The one lfs that carries rics, only has the boring brwn and pale prpl rics. And even the ones I've seen online, don't compare to yours, u got them labeled test quad. I wud say the test is a success.... Trade u a Sgt. Mjr Damsel for a frag...lol
And as for the unidentified coral, it's got to b some kind of candycane, just diff. from all others I've seen so far.
I've been feeding my corals twice a week, per the directions , hope I M not overfeeding.
Definitely seen some growth since I brought them home...

I highly recommend this guy. He doesnt give them away but the quality and stuff he gets in are excellent......im trying to find his webpage........cant find it for some reason.........you can buy them by the polyp there. Cehck out his feedback. Its pretty impressive for a ebay coral vendor to have as many sales and still have been able to maintain 100%.
shipping is super cheap for you too as you are local to him
by the polyp you are looking at $20-30 a pop for the really neat stuff but you wont be disappointed

ps--the pics labeled test was playing with my new camera trying to not forget which pictures were taken under which settings ; )

Great,
Thanks so much, he has some spectacular corals. I am going to get some of the multi-color rics, and when they r available again, some of the orange ones. I now know, will b getting a bigger tank, running out of room for all the stuff I want
And totally off subject: Can u tell me what a coepod looks like, can't find a pic anywhere on the web.... I really really want a mandarin dragonet, but want to make sure I got plenty of food in tank for him...

If you dont have at least a 80 gallon very established tank(some will even say that isnt big enough), and so many pods that they are everywhere you look ...especially at night.....you dont have enough to support one, unless youcan find one at a store that is already eating prepared foods.
They eat more pods than you can imagine, and eat them all day long. If you have any other fish that prey on pods that doesnt help either.

55G tank+30G sump=85G???
Anyway, have found pics and info on them, once I found out the correct spelling "copepods", and I have not found any yet.
Gonna wait till I have an overabundance of them, or like u said, find one at lfs that accepts prep. food
What I know for sure is, that out of all the non-aggresive fsh, I like the mandarin the best. But not gonna rush into getting one.....
Thanks for the reply
